Honoring Veteran’s Day

We would like to say THANK YOU to our brave military service members, both past and present.

In honor of Veteran’s Day tomorrow, we thought we would share how some land-grant institutions and Cooperative Extension programs across the nation are celebrating and honoring military families and veterans in their communities.

Alabama – In honor of veterans, St. Clair County Extension’s Outreach program and the Center for Education and Performing Arts will be teaming together to present a special tribute to veterans in the community. The performance is called “Run Through the Jungle” (after the iconic Creedence Clearwater Revival song), with a special performance by The Wingnuts, featuring songs from the Vietnam War Era. Veteran’s in the community will display their collections during their time of service.

Maine – In recognition of veterans, Cooperative Extension’s land-grant institution University of Maine will have a week of events and activities, including Bangor American Legion’s 3K road race called “For Our Vets Purple Heart Run” which helps raise funds to support local veterans and their families.

New Mexico – In recognition of veterans, Cooperative Extension’s land-grant institution New Mexico State University also has a week of events and activities, including an Armed Forces 5k.

New York – In honor of combat wounded veterans, Seneca County Cooperative Extension’s Wild Harvest Table will be part of a Wounded Warriors in Action (WWIA) hunting event, teaching Purple Heart recipients from across the country how to process and prepare wild game after hunting white tail deer and ducks.

North Carolina – In honor of veterans, Swain County Cooperative Extension’s Junior Master Gardener program will be selling Poppy Seed packets as a fundraiser project, raising money for the new National World War I Memorial in Washington, D.C.
